The City of Marlow/Marlow Municipal Authority was recognized by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority on December 16, 20214, for its recertification in the Competitive Utility Program.
CUP, as the program is known, challenges municipal members in several areas of the utility business including rates, reliability, program participation, maintenance, among others.
Marlow first certified as a CUP city in 2005.
The recertification comes with a $20,000 award, which the city uses towards repair and upkeep of the overall distribution electric system. Marlow also qualified for the maximum amount of points to save an estimated $12,000 of the OMPA bill, which is returned to the customers through the Fuel Cost Adjustment on individual utility bills.
“Marlow takes the CUP program very seriously,” said Jason McPherson, city administrator. “The CUP program makes staff take a deeper look at all facets of our utility. Whether it is maintenance and improvement or proper rate structure, CUP’s certification is a great tool to improve the overall system and heighten the customer satisfaction in the system.”
Marlow’s excellent reliability and competitive rates place the utility in great standing compared to similar utilities.
“I want to commend the staff on a job well done,” said Mayor Jeff Prater. “The CUP program is crucial to helping the keep the lights on in Marlow, and we are appreciative of the work that goes into recertification.”
